Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research

A multidisciplinary hub for health research

Our research

Through collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach, The MacKillop conducts innovative research with a broad reach and real impact. The Institute’s research emphasises the complex interactions between individuals, communities and health care systems to improve health outcomes. This broad-based approach includes:

  • community and population-based surveillance to better understand the societal impact of disease and potential drivers of inequitable patterns of risk and disease
  • focused studies to understand and describe the individual impact of risk behaviours and disease
  • clinical-based exercise-nutrition studies aimed at improving health and well-being
  • health services and interventions for chronic disease prevention
  • primary care health services in a community and nurse-led setting
  • social equity for access and delivery of health services
  • understanding social and behavioural issues that negatively impact health

Our centres

Each of the MacKillop’s centres focuses on a priority research area in the health field. With researchers from Australia and around the world, the centres foster collaboration and innovation while supporting healthy communities.
