The main focus of Professor Graeme Maguire’s work relates to the health issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and residents of remote Australia. Much of this work focuses on heart health, particularly acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. This also includes health policy and protocol development, research relating to regional health service evaluation and practice, chronic disease diagnosis and care, and tropical and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander respiratory and cardiovascular health and disease.

Professor Maguire is Associate Director in the Baker IDI Aboriginal Health domain as well as a National Health and Medical Research Council Practitioner Fellow and a practicing specialist physician.
