Director, Centre for Primary Care and Prevention

Associate Professor Melinda Carrington specialises in comprehensive risk assessment and nurse-led interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes in settings where there is disadvantage, such as regional and remote communities and amongst Indigenous Australians. Melinda is a Future Leader Fellow of the National Heart Foundation and received prior NHMRC Career Development and Early Career Training Fellowships in Public Health. Together with her close group of collaborators, Melinda has been at the fore of undertaking randomised controlled trials to develop new and often world-first pragmatic studies of management programs to meet the demands of an evolving burden of cardio-metabolic risk and chronic conditions with co-morbidity. The group have been integral in discovering clear benefits for the development of resources containing provision for optimal care of patients with chronic conditions in order to support health outcomes in the primary care and hospital settings. Melinda remains an Honorary Fellow at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and is also a Visiting Senior Researcher at the Hatter Institute in Cape Town and an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at Monash University.
